BACKGROUND

Viñedo Chadwick, a distinguished wine producer in Chile, continues the proud legacy of the Chadwick family by commemorating the esteemed Don Alfonso Chadwick. Situated in the Maipo Valley's prestigious Puente Alto D.O., the vineyard once served as Don Alfonso's personal polo field. It was transformed into a vineyard under the guidance of his son Eduardo, who foresaw the potential of this prime terroir. In 1992, the 15-hectare site was planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot, elevating its status as one of Chile's finest terroirs for exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon.

Located at 650 meters above sea level on the northern bank of the Maipo River, at the foothills of the Andes Mountains, the vineyard benefits from a Mediterranean climate characterized by a long, dry season with rainfall concentrated in winter. The significant temperature fluctuations between day and night are essential for developing the wines' intense color and complex flavors. The vineyard's soil, an old alluvial terrace with a shallow layer of clay over an alluvial base, provides excellent drainage and promotes a harmonious balance between vegetative growth and fruit development. Cool morning breezes from the mountains, and moderate daytime temperatures ensure that grapes ripen perfectly while retaining their freshness and acidity.

Viñedo Chadwick is celebrated for its consistent excellence and has garnered global acclaim, notably after its Viñedo Chadwick 2000 outperformed Grand Cru wines from Bordeaux and Super Tuscans from Italy at The Berlin Tasting in 2004. This landmark victory marked a pivotal moment, gaining the attention of international critics and affirming the Puente Alto D.O. as a top-tier appellation. This vintage was later honored as a 'Wine Legend' by Decanter magazine, ranking alongside the world's most celebrated wines.

Throughout the years, Viñedo Chadwick has received continuous praise from notable critics, including being the highest-rated Cabernet Sauvignon from Chile by Robert Parker for several years. A significant achievement was in May 2016, when the Viñedo Chadwick 2014 scored a perfect 100 points by wine critic James Suckling, a first for a Chilean wine.

Don Alfonso Chadwick was instrumental in shaping his family's progressive approach to winemaking. He was a pioneer in the Chilean wine industry, taking the helm of Viña Errazuriz in 1983. His son Eduardo joined the family business, helping gain international recognition for their wines. After his father's passing in 1993, Eduardo continued his legacy as president of Viña Errazuriz, upholding the family's winemaking tradition.
